History
The Lexile® Framework for Reading was born from the vision of A. Jackson Stenner, Ph.D., and Malbert Smith, Ph.D., two educational researchers who wanted to make test scores more actionable by connecting assessments to instruction.
More than 30 years ago, Jack and Malbert formed MetaMetrics® to bring this vision to life. They received a series of grants from The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) to support extensive research on reading and psychometric theory.
Today, the Lexile Framework for Reading is the most ubiquitous reading scale in the world and has become a powerful tool to personalize instruction and accelerate the path to college and career readiness for millions of students.
